Problem: There is no safe crossing along a four block section of Redwood Road (North Temple to 500 North). This forces pedestrians to either be inconvenienced by having to walk several blocks to reach a signalized crossing or to jaywalk across a busy four-lane highway. It is also difficult for cars to turn from North Star Drive (300 North) onto Redwood Road due to the high traffic volume.
Recommendation: Salt Lake City should work with UDOT to construct a traffic signal at Redwood Road and North Star Drive (300 North). (Since Redwood Road is a state highway, UDOT has the final word on any changes.)
Update: Due to the pleadings of concerned citizens of the Jordan Meadows Community Council and also to the urging of Representative Jennifer Seelig, UDOT has performed a traffic study on the intersection and determined that it does warrant a traffic signal. There is no official word on the construction timeframe, but the traffic signal is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
